Anyone with experience of Rackspace Cloud or offer a suggestion?

Would you recommend? I've used their dedis before and they were great (but v.expensive). Just wondering if anyone had a view on their cloud services.

Basically I've just picked up a ten year old, single keyword, undeveloped, ccTLD domain, paid £xxxx. It gets a healthy number of exacts/month, a lot of broads and I want to show it the love it needs without overkill until the numbers can justify it.

From what I can tell, it's either this or a VPS, but even that might be overkill as I'm basically starting from scratch and expect to have to wait at least a few months.

Initially I expect I'll be running just a CMS, probably Wordpress, but might include a Magento store eventually.

Technically I'm not proficient so need something managed or easy to maintain. Not sure that RS Cloud fulfills this criterion.

Anyone vouch for the Cloud idea, or else recommend an alternative?

Rackspace cloud is great for what it does reliable and relatively easy to use for hosting landing pages or tracking systems that need to scale quickly. However it really isn't cost effective for a site that has consistent traffic. You would be better off with a VPS or dedicated server.

I haven't used Rackspace's cloud hosting (Mosso) in about two years but when I did it was not the most reliable. From dably's post, it sounds like it has improved.

Personally, I would check out stormondemand.com by Liquid Web.

Summed up well. Bravo.

I was also thinking about getting Rackspace Cloud but I'm a complete idiot when it comes to this since I'm only familiar with cpanel on shared plans like Host Gator. How easy is it for someone like me to use this?

They have their own control panel that is relatively limited, but their tech support was pretty decent when I used them. If you have a standard site that uses a standard database like mysql you should be fine.
