An Army medic in WWII kept a journal while he was in a slave camp. Here's his tale. When it comes to real talk, it's as real as you're gonna get.

I'm an older dude and have a pretty high tolerance for pain and misery. But nothing like this. I would not have made it.

I've recently in the last year or so been really getting into history, WW2 specifically. When you read a lot of this type of stuff, it really does change your perspective of life and humanity in general. So much of it is so depressing that I've been brought to tears on several occasions but these are the types of stories people need to be learning in school, not just dates and events, but stories that really sink in and will truly change the way people behave towards each other. An empathy not just for empathy's sake but a mutual empathy to avoid such horrors in the future that will affect everyone.

This is disheartening. I wish I could have met the commanders of all the camps and treat them the way they treated these innocent people.

tldr

but seriously,
i read the first paragraph. i bookmarked it and will definitely take a look when i dont have so much shit to do

Agreed.

This article reminded me there's a lot that ties all of us together. It doesn't matter if you're laughing with a stranger you met at the train station, or dying in some forsaken jungle halfway around the world.

We're all just people trying to make our lives better.

Thats one intense story definatley makes you think and realise how good life is for some of us now.
