Hi Guys,

As you all know, Google has released an update to their algorithm targeting content farms in the US.

As i do my AM in the UK, can i ask whether there has been a lot of change in serps results for US affiliates? As a lot of my SEO link building is based around article marketing and directories, just wondering if i should be worried?

Sorry to have to break this to you, but Google has ALWAYS intended to provide original content. Those suggesting this update is doomed to fail or that linkage and SEO can beat it don't know what they are talking about.

Some of the major sites with plenty of duplicate content have seen their Organic Traffic drop by 94%. These are the bigger names they are reporting on, it will hit duplicate content across the board, and that includes affiliates.

All those bloggers who cop/paste sponsor copy are going to be hammered by this unless they start writing original content now, and go back through their posts to update them one by one.

I've seen my sites gain approx 30% organic in the UK over the past week.

Sponsors are going to be hit too, unless they implement a "three copy" rule for their affiliates and pay-site.

Good News IMO.

Who the hell wants to see the same old shit ranking all over the web?! Duplicate content sucks and origional is definitely the way to go.

What? Google made an algorithm change in attempt to give searchers better content and more quality results?

... It really isn't a big deal. Google has always been in the business of providing searchers with quality search results, so why should this algorithm change surprise anybody?

Honestly, the only webmasters that I know of who got the finger were running shady-ish tactics anyway, in which their google drops were only a matter of time from the start.

If your question is simply "should I be worried," just look at your rankings. If they've dropped, then sure, I guess you could be worried. If they haven't, then no, I guess you shouldn't be worried!

Some of the article sites that are in the crossfire of this update do have some articles that are still ranking well in Google may be because they were seen as quality material in Google's eye. This means that if you writing original and unique and informative content then there is nothing to worry about.
Although what Google sees as quality is still a mystery ;)

It's going to be much tougher get any traffic that way. I just read somewhere (can't find the article) that Ezine Articles lost their ranking on about 75% of the keywords they use to rank for... ouch

Although most of the article directories are affected during the recent SERP changes, there are a few others that still remain strong such as ehow, squidoo etc. However, if your intent of article marketing is to get a link, it still works well. But if you are thinking of getting direct referral traffic, it might be a little tougher now but who knows things might reverse back again in the next update.

Due to Google Algorithm, best quality can be generated and it is really the best thing too..Apart from this, SERP may be effected too because quality should be the best one and if it varies, then problems can be raised...

I've got a friend who runs a fairly large ecommerce site. He has duplicate sections/products all over the place. Unfortunately the product descriptions are also dupicate and he has been hit big-time.

Keep it real and unique.

They are still ranking for a ridiculous amounts of keywords.

Google is considering now the Articles sites like a farm of content that don't add any value to his searcher's and only are submitter for backlinks or to redirect the se user to an affliate site. Now EA is almost dead and only unique sites that add value to se user will be on top.

hmmmmmm....thread full of content providers throwing around numbers and examples about how valuable and important unique content is.

hmmmmmmmmmm.....

lol @ Drew - yep when autoblogs and dup content/spun content still work fine. Yes Ezine articles took a hit, but as someone else mentioned you still get link juice from it
