"As seen on" logos

I see a lot of As Seen On <logos> on LPs and product pages.

Which is of course bullshit. Your rebillable acai penis enlarging ringtone was not featured on The View. I see the social proof benefit of slapping these on a LP but wonder what the risks are.

Does stuff like this piss off advertisers? networks? Has a media outlet falsely used like this ever come after an affiliate?
 


Oprah has sued someone before. There was another case, but forget who. So, yes, it does piss people off. If the offer gets big enough and gets noticed by enough people, you just might get in trouble.

If you click on them, the generic product generally has, and sometimes even the brand product, thanks to a press release to Yahoo. I saw one once actually, for a "miracle tea" that when you clicked on the "as seen on links" it quite clearly stated the product was green tea, available in almost every shop for a couple of dollars a box :p
