Going to ASE this august, wondering how much of my travel expenses are writeoffs, and how much?

If the hotel/flight is a 100% writeoff, and money isn't an issue, should I just splurge on the nicer hotels, or should i just get an average hotel, and just splurge on fine dining, and shows with the money saved.

Since this is a pretty much networking/learning trip, most of the trip, if not all, is business related.

Anything?

Do you understand what a write off is? It doesn't mean 'free money', it means you can count it as a business expense and subtract it from your earnings. It's entirely up to you how much you want to spend. But yes, essentially everything you do on this business trip can be construed as a write off.

Thanks Blu,
Yeah I understand what a write off is, i've been doing this for a long time. It's the percentages that confuse me, i leave all the work to the accountant, and don't take much interest in what he does(probably not a good thing). Thanks for the response. I think I'm just going splurge on the hotel and restaurants and save all receipts.

Thanks

Write off everything in involved in the trip, right down the gas/cab you use getting to the airport from your house.

Personally id rather blow 10k onmyself knowing that the gov gets 2-3k less from me for doing it.

Just wanted to let you guys know i went with the london's suite. I know a lot of you book there too, so I wanted let you know i found the best deal at travelocity were it's $888 with 2 people as of a few minutes ago. Hope to meet some good people at ASE.
