funny shit, i was talking with my manager about an offer i was thinking about running (nutrisystem), this is cut and paste

[12:39] SUP3RNOVA: whats the max payout you can give on it?
[12:39] myAM: I can give you $65
[12:40] myAM: if you give me some leads to work with i can prob raise that to 66 but i cant give you 66 without any traffic
[12:40] SUP3RNOVA: hydra starts at $68
[12:41] myAM: i can match it

i laughed out loud...just goes to show, when initially negotiating payouts don't believe what they say at first. i already know other networks that pay more than what im getting now, so once i sign up there ill have to do more "negotiating"

That sucks.

I know why they play the games, but it is stupid. When they are exposed it makes them impossible to trust in the future.

Have you worked outside of marketing? it's always like that, regardless of what business you're in.

aeiouy haven't see you in a while, nice to see you back

it's just negotiation, make them some money first then get the pay rate raised and be sure it is retroactive for that month... no sense asking for an increase unless you are doing decent volume or have a solid history with the network :)

I started out an affiliate manager but now I am on the affiliate side. Affiliate managers lie the majority of the time to make the most commission. Just cut your traffic next time and sit back while your am beggs for it back, they always do.

Do most networks put AMs on commission?

How many AM's steal the best performing keywords from affiliates when they leave?

AMs can still steal your keywords regardless if you put the keywords in the subid or not. They can just backtrack to the SE's themselves and see what keywords you used. The only way to circumvent this is Landing pages.

Anyone know a different way? Using PHP header redirect doesn't hide jack.

Use a landing page, but remember, if you use DKI, save those keywords in a cookie and redirect to a generic page where you use the cookie values.

Otherwise they can read the DKi keywords from the referrer.

so untrue

yeah... fucking learn to negotiate

ask for a pay increase before sending any leads without any network history and you might get a percent or two

ask for a retroactive pay increase after sending 2000 quality leads with the condition that you are prepared to take your traffic elsewhere and you'll get just about as much as you want

Don't obsess about the payout. Watch the total revenue, some places might pay higher, but you'll suspiciously make less money.

mhmm, well all i know is I've negotiated top network payouts before sending ANY leads. So maybe im not the one who needs to work on their negotiating skills??:boid::thumbsup:
edit: btw these were 25-50% increases, not a percent or two
double edit: little to no prior network history also

I used to tell my am that I would give them a certain amount of leads (high ball number) if they would jack up the payout, and they would. Then drive traffic to that offer for about a week. After a week do the same thing to another am company and start sending the traffic to the same offer on a different company. Your affiliate manager from the first company will then contact you asking for the traffic back, tell him to jack up the payout, he will. You can actually juggle between companies like that for a while.
