Anyone here read this? A friend of mine suggested it as we were arguing the current state of the economy/government. I picked it up yesterday and so far it seems pretty decent.

I watched part one of the movie and it seemed good everytime I start reading the book I get distracted by something else

I didnt even know there was a movie ... sounds like a good alternative to actually reading this 1100 page monster

The movie is in 2 parts; the second part doesn't come out until at least this fall. The first one doesn't have a lot of good reviews, whatever that's worth.

It's definitely worth a read, though it often drags on unnecessarily long in parts. I often prefer movies over their novel counterparts, but the movie was pretty dreadful in this case. I'm still going to see Part 2 though.

I read the book, it was recommended to a friend of mine by his mentor. The mentor built a $20+ million dollar business from scratch, and he's still growing the business. I recommend the read. It brings on a new perspective to how the government can fuck with businesses.

don't do that unless you are time strapped. I still want to read the book, it seems like one of those movies where they leave a lot of the book out. But watching the movies is definitely a recommendation.

You haven't heard about it because hollywood hates anything that objects to their agenda.

It was good you just have to appreciate individualism and have a strong desire to not follow the mold of what is generally accepted as fact by the government to appreciate it.

I rather enjoyed the movies interpretation of it.

The novel obviously being the original is really what you should read though, it will open up your mind.

Its a great read but when you get to the speech towards the end, if you've been paying attention the rest of the book and you get Rand's (lol Fishkin lol) philosophy, you can skip it. Shit goes on for 50 goddamn pages.

The movie is pretty awful, but it was made on a crazy small budget too iirc. The acting is just amazingly bad at some parts though.

The book is really a great (possibly transformative) read, so long as your expectations are appropriate. The criticisms of it seem mostly from people comparing it to literature, when really, it's pretty much propaganda. It's delivery of its message is about as subtle as a sledgehammer, and it's repeated ad nauseum. However, anyone here should appreciate that message and will likely understand difficulty one would face in attempting to convey it to the average person.
