I thought it might be helpful to try and create a post with lots of reasons ppl have been getting slapped by google recently, as they are slapping many.

Common I am gathering include:

- Random HTML plug ins e.g. Uniquifier etc. etc. there are loads of these
- Auto RSS updating content
- Not enough content generally - they are employing many human testers now to check for quality
- Using article submission services or automation too agressively - I keep getting recommended to try and use semi-auto or manual stuff across the board
- Using too many blogs to promote your sites.
- Using too much video content especially YouTube as its always against their TOS

As a relative noob it seems many things that were working well are now getting ppl into trouble even decent sites.

Another solid tip I have been given is to remove any kind of foot prints from WP plugs if poss as this was what has got many people in trouble if G00gle decides to target something like one of these.

I would love to hear more ways of avoiding getting slapped.

I'll add to this list based on my own experiences recently:

I literally laughed out loud the other day when I received the following email from Google why my page had been slapped. Of course - my page was already ultra-optimized, had in- and outgoing links, several blog posts, and unique content.

Still they sent me these hilarious reasons:
Following are the reasons why your landing page has been assigned a low
quality score:

1. On review, we have found that your website is an affiliate marketing
website.
2. Your site alters the back button functionality when a user clicks on
one of your links.
3. Your website has got only blog content.
4. All the links on the website redirect to some other website.
Hahaha!
Ok, let's take a look at this...
So for #1....you have found that my website is an affiliate marketing website??? O'RLY? No fucking shit Sherlock! Like gazillion other websites advertising on your monopolized search engine - yes, my frikkin' site is an affiliate marketing site.

#2...Ok, true enough. I used T202 cloaking on my aff. links and this breaks the back button functionality on some of the offers. Still though, tons of sites use aff.link cloaking

#3...Uhhhh....yes! Is that a problem? (I asked this to the Adwords rep, and he said that actually wasn't a problem, but it did contribute to lowering my score)

#4...now this is my favourite: links on my site redirect to "some other website" ??? hahaha... First of all; no not ALL links on my site do. And second of all; should all sites that redirect to other sites be slapped?

After this, I had a back-and-forth dialogue with the rep via email and I finally came down to this conclusion. Here are things they are cracking down on:

Google will now give you a low QS for:
- LPs where all internal links are in the footer only.
How to fix this: Put some internal links up in the content or other navigation.

- Blog style LP/website
How to fix this: Make your LP less "blog-looking" and more "real site" looking. :ugone2far:

- non-working back button after visiting offers on LP
How to fix this: Turn off cloaking or make sure it is possible for the user to get back to the LP after clicking the back button on an offer.

- LPs promoting diet/weightloss as an affiliate
How to fix this: Think outside the box.

- non-working back button after visiting offers on LP
How to fix this: Turn off cloaking or make sure it is possible for the user to get back to the LP after clicking the back button on an offer.

An alternative to the turning off cloaking idea is to have the link go into a new window. Then if the user wants to go back to your site, they just close the new window. It can still be cloaked this way.

I can't confirm if google will slap for that, but I've been doing it on one of my review landers for months.
