A shitload of my FB friends are posting stuff from this app...

FarmVillain on Facebook

If you don't want to click the link they have a bunch of pretty funny/fake Farmville status updates like...

"Master Butcher achieved! You have successfully slaughtered 1000 cows in a 24 hour interval on your farm. Oh my!"

I'm guessing their shit is going pretty viral, just from what I've seen on my own FB account.

It looks like they're monetizing with a partnership with Jolt gaming, I've done a little searching and can't find any info about an affiliate program with that company.

This next question may go in design/development, but I'll ask here...

Me and my friends could come up with some WAAY funnier stuff than this, non-farmville related.

How tough would an app like this be to develop? I'd imagine pretty easy, but honestly have no clue (not a programmer)...

Anyone making money off of a viral app?

I think if I could get one developed, get it going viral and monetize it, probably with gaming offers or something, it could be gold.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Thanks,

-Scott

I get that...

My idea involves popular apps too, I just don't want to out it in a public forum honestly.

More interested to hear other people's experiences and also the difficulty level/cost of having something very similar created.

Also wanted to just point it out, pretty damn smart idea.

I think I remember Peter Drew saying that one FB app he was developing for a project cost around $30k. I'm sure it really depends on the type of app you are wanting developed though.

You really have to look at the niche you are in, and decide if a FB app is truly worth the investment. As you said, it has to go viral to really catch on and be worth the investment.

sending updates isnt the hard part of facebook. as far as fb apps go, its gotta be the equivilant of "ill set up a wordpress blog for you for $5".
