I would assume this varies by niche and offer, but I haven't had much luck at all with buying banner space for CPA offers and making it convert well. Is anyone here actually making this work on a good level? I'm positive there has to be good CTRs and conversions on some sites just wondering how it is comparing to a good PPC campaign.

Well PPC is going to be a lot easier and likely a better return on ROI.

If for no other reason than there are far fewer variables.

That said, banners done right can be far more profitable just because of the overwhelming reach available with them.

I would start with PPC and then try some really low CPM stuff on Google and see if you can make it work. Not going to be easy.

P.S. Conversion rate on banners is almost always going to be lower as well, so dont think "I can afford to pay $1.00 a click in PPC so these $.50 clicks in banners are a bargain..."

Thanks Diorex, I have also realized that the cheaper cpm stuff out there tends to have a lot of international traffic that is harder to convert offers with since most of the traffic isn't even eligible for the offers.
Guess I'll stick with my PPC stuff until my cash flow reaches levels where I can afford better banner space.

Actually to follow up with Hot Movies comment.

The return we see is not in the cheap stuff it is in the very expensive stuff. I am talking $25 CPM and up. This stuff can explode in your face overnight, and requires nearly perfect optimization and creative, but because of targeting it can be very lucrative.

I only suggested the cheap CPM stuff because that is a good place to get a feel for things, but banners are a slippery slope.
