Im looking for a really solid autoresponder system that can send different emails based on a multitude of triggers, such as send this email to people who havent opened, send this email to people who clicked x etc etc. I also want a system that isnt particularly prone to getting accounts shut down due to bouces or complaints. I currently use icontact and i never have a problem getting shut down but their autoresponders are from the 90s, you cant set triggers, you cant even set a time for them to go out. I need more options.

Also I need to just be able to import lists.

and I know about mailchimp and yes its pretty good but they shut down accounts for NOTHING!

I'm using Getresponse and their API rocks, allows you to segment pretty easy and move contacts around based on external actions such as conversions or changes of options on your membership site.

Took me only a couple hours to set up rules to sending different follow up depending on how far down the sales funnel the customer went. Also their dev team are good guys and quick to help with whatever custom stuff you need.

Another neat thing I just started using is you can add hidden fields to your webform and save whatever data you want about that visitor and then segment based on that or use the data in the email to customize each email specifically based on eg. what type of search they did on your site or where they came from.

Infusionsoft does this as well. A bit pricey just for this, however, unless you also want to use it as a CRM.

Can you get a plan where you pay per email instead of per subscriber? Also can you import without a double opt in and how are they on complaints and shutting accounts?

No idea, I'm on their standard plan that charges per number of subscriptions, maybe talk to them?

Yeah you can import whatever as long as it's your list and they don't make them confirm the opt in. I only use single opt in.

I haven't had any issues with them and I never received any threats about shutting down my account but I only have around 20k emails in so I can't really say.

I'm +1 for getresponse. Have been using them for years. You're probably not going to find a good public email company like this that will let you import without double opt-in, though...

You can kind of customize the import double opt-in message, though, but if you're working with iffy data, it wont take long before they tell you to fuck off.

But... all the cool trigger, list management stuff is available in their API, and it's super simple to work with.

GetResponse does allow importing on a case-by-case basis. You have to specifically request to do it, then they send you over to their security/compliance dept who will email you a bunch of basic questions. Answer those questions, they upload a portion of your list.

Once that portion is uploaded, you are requested to send an email blast. They look at your bounce/complaint/unsubscribe/open/ctr on that blast over about a 5 day period. If within acceptable limits they import the rest of your list and you're off to the races.

Been working great for me.

OfficeAutopilot is great if you use their setup WITH your own SMTP such as SendGrid or something similar. OAP's deliverability and ability to send out emails on time and hit the inbox has been inconsistent at best over the past 12 months. Lots of people with major issues. Not to mention they charge you out the ass for it.

Can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet...Interspire Email Marketer.

Never host your list with a 3rd party. They can shut you down at a moment's notice and fuck up your entire autoresponder series.

Interspire installs on your own server. Use CritSend for deliverability. They have the same features as SendGrid except you only pay for what you use (cheaper per email sent), no flat monthly rate.

Interspire has all the triggers you need. Conditional content, fully-featured API, everything. Their new version is seriously bad ass and I'm using it for a new project of mine.

Also, make sure you run it on a VPS or ideally a dedicated server. I recommend WiredTree.

Hope that helps!
