Best/cost effective CRM

Salesforce is retarded expensive, any competitors you would recommend? I was contemplating having something built from scratch but if there is a good alternative I am all ears. The only alternative I found was this- CRMroll.com

Highrise: Small Business CRM, Web-Based Contact Manager isn't very expensive

I believe SalesForce is the best. All users I've know love it. If you need to customize your CRM extensively go with ACT or Dynamics. SugarCRM is garbage IMO. Those big open source projects get way too unorganized and undocumented over time. SugarCRM was a pain to customize for me at least.

I've used Google Apps Script + Google Spreadsheets as a CRM and it is super powerful if you have the imagination. It integrates with google calendar, gmail, etc. Highly customizable, accessible, reliable... And it's free.
