Where are the best deals online for buying high end laptops? What I mean by high end is large display (18" +), 4GB (preferrably more), Intel Core 2 Quad, etc. I customized one on HP.com but I am not sure there isn't a place to get better deals?

Why would you want a laptop with such specs? You're looking for desktop performance in a ridiculously large package anyway, so why not just get a desktop (with a much bigger screen)? You're not seriously looking to haul such a behemoth around with you are you?

Yes sir, I don't mind lugging around a laptop. And yes, I am looking for a laptop, not a desktop.

For most people, a smaller laptop is better.... But for those of us who do design work and have a family to tend to, a bigger / heavier / fully capable laptop is often preferred to a desktop. Example - my husband is in the Navy, so for a good part of each year I'm raising the kids by myself. Being tied to a desk doesn't always work so well, since the kids tend to destroy things when they get bored. Enter the laptop - now I can take them to the park and let them run and scream all they want, while still getting my work done.

It's more popular than you think. Loads of manufacturers offer 18-19 inch models, but other than Silent P's explanation and LAN parties, I don't see the point.

You're correct, for most people smaller and lighter LTs are better.

For those of us that have pretty wide shoulders and/or have shoulder injuries the smaller LT's keyboard, not just the screen, is too small and narrow.

I use the OLD Windows keyboard with the separated & angled keys on my desktop machines. A standard keyboard causes too much pain in my injured shoulder for me to have my arms that close together and at that angle for any prolonged period of time.

With this in mind I don't mind at all having a larger & heavier LT. Oh, and since my eyesight is not as sharp as it use to be, the larger screen is welcomed.

Sincerely,

MT

I'm considering this 18.4" ASUS, but how the fuck am I going to carry it? I've searched around, but can't find jack shit for 18.4" laptop bags. This was the best I could find, but its in the UK.

How do those of you with 18.4" laptops roll?

Check out this case Pelican™*Products*1495CC2*Laptop Case

Or the backpack at Newegg Newegg.com - TOSHIBA Black with Silver accents 18.4" Gaming Backpack Model PA1453U-1BG8 - Laptop Cases For Him

P.S. If neither one of those would work for you, you can get a standard hard bodied briefcase like a Samsonite and then use "Pick-N-Pluck" foam to secure it.

I would seriously consider spending the extra $400 to get into the W90 series instead, with the quad core, 2gigs more of ram and dual video cards it's got much better specs I think...

So you are saying you're a bored housewife who's husband is away for a good part of each year?

Spoon Pic Please.
