Time to buy another laptop, the last two or three I bought I had a hell of a time getting Ubuntu or any linux distro for that matter to run respectably. Anyone suggest any desktop replacement laptops that will run Ubuntu seamlessly? First hand experience?

Thanks, Jer

Any recent laptop can install ubuntu fine; I have an Aspire One that works perfectly fine with Ubuntu...

Your right you can install linux on just about any PC based laptop though some laptops are much less of a headache than others. I have an Aspire Ive been running Ubuntu on also. It has given me no problems from day one and its been almost a year now. My Aspire is the only laptop Ive installed Ubuntu on that has not given me headaches.

Some work great others dont depending on hardware and what not. Its hit or miss seems like. I have yet to comfortably run Ubuntu on a Vaio.....

Thinkpads are supposed to be fairly receptive. Ran Ubuntu up to Heron, IIRC, on my T30. Haven't tried it on my X200 yet. ThinkWiki has some really good info on installing many flavors, including Ubuntu, on just about all models.

Pretty much anything should work these days. The only gripe I ever really had is ATI slacks on driver support. So keep that in mind.

I've got nothing interesting to add to the tread except I'm installing ooh bun 2 on my old desktop today! Played with different flavors for years but I'm figuring it's time to bite the bullet and just get used to using it 20-30% of the time.

I bought a Toshiba M305-S4910 just over half a year ago. It runs Fedora 10+ right out of the box including wireless, and the keyboard is awesome. It's also light enough to not be a pain in the ass to travel with.
