I have a site that's of value to college aged kids - or anyone in school really.

Just wondering if anyone has any out of the box ideas for reaching college kids that are interested in saving money?

I've tried a few press releases with decent results but I want to go directly to college kids - anyone have any advice?

BTW it's a "brand" type site, so that opens a few options.

Direct mail would be the most targeted.

There has to be college newspaper, magazine, and flyer buys you can do too.

I would do a mix of what everyone is saying really.

Facebook is college kid central, ads in big university newspapers, flyers, paying kids at college to post flyers on boards for you.

Was going to mention in the OP anything but Facebook, that's obvious, thought I covered that with the "out of the box" part. Also would like to add no PPC since I have zero way of tracking conversions/goals with the way the site is set up.

Best idea so far. Just need to find a way to do this on a bigger scale than going from college to college.

I can send you some resources tomorrow and go do some searches on here too for direct mail and postcards.

I don't know what type of promo you want to do or how exactly you want to pitch it but if it's the site you showed me before then I think you could kill it with offline marketing.

Why not try on a small scale first to see if you are getting any traffic from it? I'd set up a "promotional offer" page that you display in the flyer e.g. site.com/university-name-promo. Then I'd track to see how much traffic is actually coming through that URL. Find out what the subscription base of their newspaper is to get a rough idea of conversions. Do some A/B split testing on copy/imagery to determine highest conversion ratio.

Profit.

Also, PM me your site if you're willing to share... I run a high school resource site that gets close to a million visitors a month and almost all of them are going to a brick and mortar school after graduation.

Yeah it's that site, would appreciate any info/resources, thanks broseph. I'll be available via PM/Skype too btw.
