Shoemoney made a post where he says he always bids the minimum for his keywords and goes for the longtail and misspellings. This is the opposite of what ive been doing which is bidding kinda high on the most popular words to try and get a good CTR. Anyway what are your guys thoughts?

depends ;)

I do both, but for a new campaign I head straight for the main keywords.

If that converts, then I am in a better position to judge whether it is worth putting some time into creating a longer keyword list.

I found this post by Shoe odd, I am not trying to minimize spend or maximize clicks, I am trying to maximize total profit. I would think someone with his resources would think the same way.

To us, it is a fairly simple equation. What is the maximum profit for each individual keyword based upon position and cost. We have noticed that many keywords have a significant gap in cost between the blue box and the upper right corner on Google. The CTR does not change very significantly but the
CPC can be as much as half by simply dropping a position.

Experiment and record your results. The Google position tool helps with this.
