Brendan J Smith of Motive Network...

Your system sent out hundreds of dozens to all of your "inactive" affiliates along and I along with all of their personal email info. I'm assuming you'll receive lots of requests for this stop.

No hard feelings. Please BCC and be more careful next time.

Good luck.

Yeah, great job. I had to cut my blackberry off.

Thanks for sending me giant lists of affiliates that you've decided to remove from your system, that should definitely make things more smooth over there. Always a good idea to cut people from your network because of inactivity, since they are wasting so much valuable room there, taking up 1 row of your database.

Also, thanks for sending 1 individual email for each account you've disabled, instead of just sending it to the owner.

I agree with montana. Brendan had a response back to me quicker than I expected. No excuses or BS. Said he's fixing it. Human error happens. It sucks. I was pissed. But he's addressing it. He's got another chance from me.

Oh, and he reactivated me with a simple email. I appreciate that.

Inactive accounts shouldn't be closed, but on the network side its important for us to know who is active and who isn't. Classification of affiliates is vital for organization.

completely agree...just because someone isnt doing traffic doesnt mean they never will

Also, why the heck would you close inactive publisher accounts? They *might* eventually generate revenue...

Yeah I'd actually like to hear the answer on that as well, from Motive if at all possible. I'd consider signing up for Motive -- have heard enough good things about them on this forum, but if I chose not to run traffic through them for a few months I'd get axed? That doesn't really jive with me.

Not trying to be a dick but I, as I assume many other affiliates do as well, turn on/off huge floods of traffic to whatever affiliate network I please at various times for a variety of reasons.

Wow, someone really f'd up . I just got an email that my account has been frozen as inactive - it has been barely three weeks since I last ran stuff with Motive. What exactly is their definition of inactive?

Why do people always chime in with "he's a nice guy, cut him a break" kinda shit? Don't be such a fuckin brown noser..

They fucked up and people are pissed about it, if they want to voice their opinion about it, they have every right. Stop coming and making it about how nice someone is.

He did apologize though so there's no reason to continue to bitch and moan either..

We shut down inactive accounts because some affiliates sell them, some affiliates use inactive accounts to steal suppression files and spam them, and a whole host of other reasons. Its done to keep the network clean and eliminate and potential problems.

I will never get tired of hearing about affiliates who see the supression lists on offers as "oh shit, a free email database for me to mail to, those networks are so stupid!!" --- Awesome idea guys.

The fact that he fessed up to the issue straight up, without blaming some lowly employee, speaks worlds about his character.

If I was into promoting networks, I would probably sign up with him just because of this. Mistakes happen to everyone... few actually have the balls to admit it.

I hadn't used my CJ account in forever, so they sent me an email saying if I didn't generate sales soon my account might be closed. Then like a week later they just took like $10 (out of the remaining like $50) out of my account as some sort of service fee or something, I dunno.

Anyway, I sign up to tons of networks because I never know who is going to have an offer I want. That shit is annoying when a network wants to cancel your account for "inactivity". I don't know the logic behind it, other than maybe to try to force you to run traffic with them? Who knows. Doesn't work here, though.

Since a few people have asked i figured i would explain why many networks and certainly why motive removes inactive accounts.

Protect the network against fraudulent accounts. Fraud affiliates tend to be sleeper accounts that lie dormant for long periods of time. They stay
inactive until the opportunity arises and when it does they will try to send fraud. As Mike Krongel mentioned there is also the issue of affiliates
selling the accounts, using inactive accounts to steal suppression files and unfortunately other shady things they love to do. Mike is 100% right on this we are doing house cleaning to eliminate potential problems.

Focus on active publishers. We try hard to give every motive affiliate the the kind of support they deserve. If we keep inactive accounts in our system, it takes the focus away from the Affiliates that produce and we get tied up working to get these accounts active.

Organization. Even the most organized companies with complex systems and processes to manage operations can get unorganized and inefficient, the less clutter in a system the better and by eliminating accounts that have no activity it gives us a better picture of what is producing and allows us to manage that.

If there are Affiliates we removed that want to do business with motive, they should send the AM's or me an email and we will get the account active immediately.
