I'm setting up a business in England.

My customers are going to be based mostly in the UK but I want customers from the US and other parts of the world too.

I'd like to get a .com domain name because I think that's better.
Should I get a .co.uk or is a .com ok?

it will be more easy for your site to get rank in google.co.uk with the .co.uk domain , and for your .com to be ranked in google.com

my advice , take both

Hi
I normally buy both, then redirect the .com to .co.uk :costumed-smiley-087

+1 for taking both.

I was in a similar situation. I got both because co.uk adds reassurance that the UK customers are buying from a local company. Also, if a .com domain is only used, UK customers may automatically think its a US based company, and you wouldn't want that if you main target audience is the UK.

So got both to be on the safe side.

I agree mostly with those in this thread. One thing that I have found with a .com in the UK is that there is no problem ranking something first for it's main kw e.g. Bluewidgetcompany.com for blue widget but when it comes to blue widget uk it is down at 7th.
