Has anyone ever bought ad space on popular sites (I am talking $200+/day for a 268x60 banner type sites) where you'd put affiliate banners up?

It seems that it would be much less of work in getting your own site up with traffic when you can just put a banner up on one that is already successful, no?

I looked at www.adbrite.com and many of their prices seem too high for my purpose where the turnover would be very high. I know if I talk with a site owner directly I am sure I can get a better deal. Just want to know if this can work. Anyone done this before?

PS- I called up CJ and they said it should be totally fine to do this.

it can be lucrative only risk is if you constantly run the ad and the site owner notices checks it out then they signup as affiliate.. I had that happen but usually as long as you pay them they are happy and just look at it as another ad.

So there are "hidden gems" on adbrite for your particular ad?

Where else do you recommend Yuli? I am always looking for other places to find websites looking to sell advertising space. I tried Adengage and my initial tests were very poor.

individual sites are also great. makesure you have an offer and a target in mind.
For example, Zwinky http://zwinky.smileycentral.com/download/index.jhtml?partner=ZJxdm078

Who do you target with that offer? Look around the page itself.......notice at the top itmentions MYSPACE in nice, big letters. Ahhhh myspace audience would be good to target.
go to google and search for sites with myspace resources using 'myspace codes' keyword or any other myspace related keyword. Contact top 10 sites that come up and I am sure you will get a good deal on atleast a few of them.

Another good place that let's you pick the sites to place the ads on is http://www.premiumnetwork.com/

Thanks for the info! Currently I am trying to a few ads on Adbrite but quite frankly I do not expect to make a killing there. I figure I'd test the market there.
