Yeah... after a few years of expensive therapy I can laugh about it, too.

Really, even apart from that incident (transferal of services) Telecoms are just absolutely shitty. I guess it has to do with scale, but I never got anyhting but crappy service.
Cue story:
Dramatis Personae
Me (Trying to get telephone service 1st time in Hamburg)
Telco Slave (TS...Saying I got service, but..NADA)
Place
A telco shop in Hamburg
me: Hey, my telephone is not working.
TS: (Dials number) I get a tone, so your telephone is working.
me: No.. actually, there is no telephone connected right now.
TS: So.. it is the telephone that is missing.
me: You SAID you just got a ring tone... ?
TS: Yes.. So it's working. See?
me: No... there is no phone connected.. and yes, I got that free tone too, from the outside, dialing my number. But in my apartment, no phone rang and I can't dial out.
TS: We COULD send a service technician. But if it is
your fault, you have to pay
ridiculous amount. And as the "free" tone shows, it IS working, cause that is only sent when the telephone on the other side is answering.
me: There is no..... Sure, send em in.
TS: Are you sure? Because, if it is
your fault, you have to pay
ridiculous amount.
me: Yes I am SURE.
TS: But,, I get a ringtone... so, if it is
your fault...
me: SEND THEM!
the next day, message on the answering machine
Technician: Err... uhh... hello... well.. your telephone is working now.
Just the beginning of my love affair with telecoms.

PS: I WISH I was making this up.
