I've been reading about paying for directory submissions. (I've seen some good reviews on some folks on the For Sale forum) Is it a good or bad thing to do? Will I see a bump in traffic from this? If so, how effective are they and how many should I buy?

Honest feedback here. I'm the kinda guy who doesn't mind outsourcing certains things if the 'bang for the buck' is there. I place a certain dollar amount on my time and I manage my projects based on that. :)

Thanks in advance,

Directory submission is a great idea. It must be differentiated from "buying backlinks" or similar paid linking. Get hold of one Tomar or kamesh here at Wicked and I'm sure either can help point you in the direction of some educational resources on directories.

As far as bang for the buck goes, getting some good links for <$100 is good -- having somebody else do the hours and hours of miserable grunt work involved in getting those links is very good.

So buying the links and directory submissions is a good thing if you can afford it and buy a bunch? Am I right?

Just to try to clarify it again, "buying links" -- ie. paying some site to put a link on their page back to you -- is stupid bullshit (some minor exceptions exist with super high quality sites, but the cost of the links makes the value debatable.) Outsourcing directory submissions is not "buying links," it's paying someone else to do a bunch of work you don't want to do. Yes, there are links involved in both processes, and yes, there is money changing hands in both processes, but we're talking about two totally different things.

And yes, getting a decent blanket layer of backlinks from directories is good, and having someone else do it for $2 an hour is great.

Understood! Buying backlinks service is bad. Buying directory submissions, good!

Awesome info guys. For a brand new domain, what is a good 'sweet spot' number to start with? 100? 150? 200? As many as you can afford?

Last thing:

I'm having trouble finding the names of the folks who came highly recommended here for this service. I'll head over to the For Sale thread and try and find them again. If you guys know off the top of your heads, post them here for the noobies!

Thanks in advance,

What type of traffic can you expect to see from this type of investment? A ballpark number would be great. I know it depends on the topic, category, etc.

Thanks in advance,

Let me tell you that you will NOT get any traffic from directory submissions.

However, if you have your keyword researched properly then you will get back links built up for those keywords using directory submissions. Once these links get indexed then your site will gain on SERP's for those keywords there by getting ORGANIC TRAFFIC from SE's.

Thanks for clarifying the technical nature of the benefit of directory submissions. i had a feeling that was the case. So, you get more traffic from getting submitted to directories by nature of ranking higher in the SERP's.

Thanks again,

Outsourcing directory submission is a good option especially if you don't have the time to do it by yourself. Be sure to have your site submitted manually for better results and always ask for confirmation that your site was added successfully.

Excellent. Yes, my time is more valuable than that. It seems those guys have a great reputation and I'll be soliciting their services in the near future.

I would rather be moving on to the next thing rather than spending hours doing the 'grunt' stuff. It's good business.

The 'meat' of this thread is permanently etched in my 'little black book'. :)
