Getting ready to work on redesigning & SEO for a client site. They have a development server where they need to know my IP address so we can have access via their VPN.

Guess a proxy would be the answer, right and configure that in my FF options?

I don't want to use one of those free proxies because they're slow and unreliable. How would we go about getting one of our own with a static IP that we could use for this project?

You could get a web server (host) and use a domain. If you have a VPS with its own IP and a shell, even better. Restrict access to the site (restrict the port ranges also) and make the tunnel from the domain to your client's location.
