Can someone explain record.php and landing.php to me?

I've seen this so many times, A website calls landing.php and record.php instead of having a script to call prosper directly.

I just dont understand the reason to track like this, or how to do it.

If you know what it is and how it works, please PM me to explain it. I'll pay someone to give me a quick lecture.. lol
