can you have an exit popup box on ppc

on adwords, ysm, adcenter... are you allowed to have those popup prompts "are you sure you want to leave press ok or cancel" ?

i see a lot of people using them, but are they indeed allowed?

i guess the next question, if you use them, have they helped retain visitors to push for a conversion?
