Weird times, why this now...hopefully it isnt an actual warning signal to those in Iran, to get out while the ground is still solid.

Sudden stop: Canada cuts ties with Iran, closes embassy, orders diplomats home

montreal gazette story copied here
VLADIVOSTOK, Russia - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird delivered a diplomatic bolt from the blue Friday, abruptly and unexpectedly severing ties with Iran, shuttering Canada's embassy there and giving Iranian diplomats in Ottawa five days to get out of the country.
Baird rattled off a litany of long-standing grievances with Iran during a hastily organized news conference in the Russian city of Vladivostok, where he and Prime Minister Stephen Harper are participating in this weekend's meeting of Asia Pacific Co-operation leaders.
"The Iranian regime has shown blatant disregard for the Vienna Convention and its guarantee of protection for diplomatic personnel," Baird said.
"Under the circumstances, Canada can no longer maintain a diplomatic presence in Iran. Our diplomats serve Canada as civilians, and their safety is our No. 1 priority."
The move came as a surprise, one Baird justified with complaints that Canada and others around the world have been making for months, if not years.
Baird cited an eight-month-old attack on Britain's embassy in Tehran as evidence that Canada's own diplomats there are in danger.
He also accused Iran of providing military assistance to the Assad regime in war-riven Syria, failing to comply with UN resolutions regarding its nuclear program, and "materially" supporting terrorist groups.
And, for good measure, he accused Iran of "routinely" threatening the existence of Israel, engaging in racist anti-Semitic rhetoric and incitement to genocide, and called the country "among the world’s worst violators of human rights."
"Canada," he said, "views the government of Iran as the most significant threat to global peace and security in the world today."
He said the Canadian embassy in Tehran has been closed, while Iranian diplomats in Canada have been given five days to leave. Ordinary Canadians were also warned to avoid any travel to Iran.
So sudden was the news, Baird later felt it necessary to quell conjecture about possible military action. "Unequivocally, we have no information about a military strike on Iran," he said through a spokesman.
People seeking Canadian consular services in Iran are being directed to the embassy in Turkey.
Canada's relations with Iran have been iffy since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. After Canadians spirited American diplomats out of Tehran in 1980 during the post-revolution hostage crisis, the Canadian embassy was closed for eight years.
The two countries slowly moved back to normal diplomatic relations with an exchange of ambassadors in 1996.
But the relationship chilled in 2003 after Zahra Kazemi, a freelance photographer with dual Canadian-Iranian citizenship, was killed in custody in Iran in what Canada described as a state-sanctioned murder. Canada recalled its ambassador.

I hope not. Spent 6 weeks in Iran two years ago and met nothing but friendly, helpful, welcoming and lovely people.

So they do have their fair share of religions nutters (as do most countries) but most of them are located in Qom (south of Tehran) and some eastern desert city, I think Masjid, or something.

I understand that these fanatics are the last people to come approach a tourist family and practise their English.

However we travelled through the Turkish border to the Pakistani border, through "touristy" areas, cities and tiny villages. We had our campervan so were able to get to any area we wanted. We visited mosques, the memorial site of Khonomeni (sp) and were welcomed inside and got guided tours. Fair enough my wife had to go in the womens entrance and be covered, but it is their country so their rules.

We were constantly invited to peoples houses for dinner and upon leaving had thrusted upon us bags of food and on two occasions offered money to help us continue our journey.

Strangely enough, the only other country on our trip (30 odd countries over 2 years) where we experienced such hospitality from strangers, given food and offered money, was the US.

If the two countries could just constrain their religious fanatics, stop going after the religious vote, they would realise, they are more alike than they realise.

Harper loves him some Israel

So the US ordered Canada to cut ties, did I read between the lines correctly?

The warning shots have been fired. The globalist are clearly setting up for their war on Iran deemed "WWIII" by the same propaganda spewing rhetoric Zionist owned media fucks back in WWII. I can already see the picture they're starting to paint; first we cut ties, then tensions rise to a breaking point, then the false flag and boom.

War.

It's a null point to even say that I'm losing faith in humanity; I don't think I have any left at all. And I'm not just being dramatic I honestly don't think we're going to exist as a species in another hundred years.

Yes, you did. Except it was the same people that own the united states that told them too.

nazi germant also had many lovely friendly pleasant citizens...

any war we fight with iran will not be against its people (although some of them will die) but rather against their leadership.

we simply cannot allow these bastards to get nuclear weapons.

i'm amaze that we haven't learnt our lesson. does anyone read history or remember chamberlain????

Open your eyes.

Fundamental Islam is our enemy.

Moderate muslims are not, and I believe we have many muslim brothers and friends ready to fight with us against these freakshows who threaten the peace of the world.

"useful idiots" too many "useful idiots"

open your eyes. these people spit on the freedom that youtake for granted.

learn a lesson from chamberlain, because he didnt want to go to war either, he wanted peace. everyone wants peace. but sometimes you have to be careful and not give evil an inch or look what happens.

Are you seriously trying to compare Iran to an imperialistic Nazi Germany?

Iran would be just as dangerous to the US with nukes as Pakistan or North Korea is (in other words, not at all). Nuclear weapons are a deterrent against invasion by the US, and that's the real reason the US doesn't want Iran to have them.

I see your point, but you are underestimating the brand of radical messianic end of the world welcoming theocratic fundamentalism that resides at the top of iranian leadership.

these muthafuckas is CRAZY yo.

I can only hope that the more moderate iranians in positions of power (and we know they are there) will find a way to take the reigns.

One thing is for sure, the power balance will shift... sunni states will be at the mercy of iran, and israelis will live in fear.

so why can dozens of other countries have nuclear weapons but not Iran ? they WILL obtain them eventually.

kinda like your little brother saying he doesn't approve of your friends. you hear it, but really, who the fuck cares? ok, little man, have your fit.

they are a hard-line theocracy who welcome the idea of an apocalyptic scenario which will bring back the hidden imam.

khamenei has told amadenijad to tone down this rhetoric in the past, but don't kid yourself... khamenei has met the hidden imam and consulted with him, and guess what?

... the Iranians have been lucky enough to be chosen to be the victors in a apocolyptic war with the jews and the USA. O GOODY!! YAYYY

All you pacificists are like the idiots who failed to read or take note of mein kampf and other hateful speeches and writings in the pre-war years... it was all there for any idiot to see, and yet people didn't take it seriously...

we should have stopped Hitler when he re-militarized the rhineland, then we should have stopped him when he bullied the austrians into the anschluss, and then we thought that appeasing him with the sudetan land was probably the best thing for peace...

One day I fear that we will be saying "maybe we should have stopped Iran from getting nuclear weapons"

Honestly though, yall could be right, and I could be completely wrong. I really fucking hope I'm wrong.

Every country has crazy religious people.

Iran is not a threat to the US but i'm sure we will use the nuclear route as a guise for war ;)

The only reason the US cares is Israel and years of hate.

We sure hacked the shit out of them tho ;P {s pwnt

Moslems are renowned for their hospitality and kindness.

I truly love arabic, moslem, turkish, and iranian culture (and much more). I love the east, I think it is a necessary balance to the west and wouldn't it be great if we could see that we both need eachother and that we are so much stronger together.

I have a very deep appreciation for the culture of these countries, I was raised on sufi stories and philosophy.

But dear god... A small percentage of their people are extremely misguided and have a deep deep hatred for western culture and everything that we believe in.

I don't think hating them back is the answer. But I don't think backing down is the answer either.

And the scary thing is that, as small as this group is, they are the ones that intimidate, harass, bully, preach hatred, terrorize, teach their children to hate jews and western culture, and just generally threaten the peace of the world. And soon a theocratic government with these people in control may have nuclear weapons.

Our muslim brothers and friends are scared to speak up, and rightfully so, but they will have to soon!
