Change servers and traffic crashes? WTF?

Dudes,

I changed servers from a shitty HostWinds VPS to a KnownHost dedicated server and the traffic for one of my sites dropped by 80%. I don't know enough (re: anything) about servers to be abel to work out what's going on here. Do any of you guys know what's going on here / how to fix it?

If not, can you point me in the right direction at least?

Good idea but I've definitely moved everything over. And the traffic drop didn't happen with all sites, just one. I'm not sure why.

There is a possibility that it was penalised but it would have to be a pretty big coincedence to happen on the exact day I switch servers.
 
I've seen sites dance after a server move. Give it a week or so and then go into freak out mode.

/good choice on the move to KnownHost. I wouldn't recommend them for shady sites though.
 
This is a solid site and it hasn't recovered in a month. I've busy with other things but I'm back on track now.

Any thoughts?
 
Are you still ranking? Did you check SERPs from your top performing countries? What type of traffic did you lose (referral/direct/search)? Have you read your server logs? HTTP? Database?

Many unknowns. Need more info.
 
There was no shift in the major KW's. They all held their ground. From what I can see, the major losses were in long tail traffic.

The amount of KW's I was getting traffic for dropped from 450 / month to 100 / month.
