Is just doing the "site: www.mysite.com" command in google enough to see if google indexed the site or not?

I'm working on a thing to get data that's not indexed in google and do something with it (to avoid duplicate penalty). Something like bhseo's desert scraping but with my own twist.

I read somewhere however that the "site" indexed in google is not really accurate enough. Can anyone say something about this? I using the "site" command good enough to know if a site is indexed or not?

You can use the "site:" command, or just enter your URL into G's search. If your site is indexed it will appear. If not, it won't. Pretty simple. But yes, "site:www.Your-Site.com" is fine.
