want to know more?

Cicada 3301 is like the mother of all Crypto games.

It is a puzzle spanning two years (in it's third year now) that starts with 4chan and takes its solvers through a wild goose chase across TOR, twitter, jpegs riddled with code, actual public references, more code and whatnots.

It claims to be a "hiring game" of some sort that states that it is "Looking for people".

Cicada 3301: The web's toughest and most creepy crypto-puzzle is BACK

// Oh and read that "Want to know more?" link in the OP. Those people are obsessed with Cicada.

IMO it is a government agency OR a Fortune 10 tech company looking to recruit some of the top hackers, cryptographers, and stenographers.

Basically it is a worldwide nerd puzzle.

Can anyone remember the name of a treasure hunt started on 4chan a couple of years ago? Bit off topic, but it reminded me of this. What I can remember of it was people going to some demolition site to find a package, some people participating getting creepy pictures of themselves walking taken from the treasure hunt starter's car, and at one point, someone seeing the car and approaching it, with the guy getting spooked and not continuing with clues. The prize was something very vague, although I can't remember the exact wording. There's an encyclopedia dramatica page about it.

Someone with cash to burn, for sure.

This is NSA recruitment, the CIA no longer hires people from outside the community. NSA is trying to have more people in house after all the issues they had with Snowden.
