Considering pushing PPC traffic directly to CJ's merchant product links. Anybody had any recent success with this?

I'm not opposed to building out full product sites but, in theory, direct PPC sounds like it might convert better. Especially if it's laser targeted down to a particular product or even brand.

I've never had much success with CJ and although their net-30 terms sound pretty shitty, they've been around for twice as long as most of the networks I work with (10 years.) They are obviously doing something right, right?

You would think so - I've used them a bit in the past but never marketed anything.

Now that I think about it, that sounds very logical though. Market "Best Buy Samsung TV" and it is perfectly targeted... Hmmmm

Sorry I don't have an actual answer for you, just thinking out loud :)

I haven't done direct linking to them (other than blackhat, lol). But I have sites that utilize CJ and ShareASale datafeeds. So I send product specific searches straight to my own product specific pages, and then presell the visitor to the merchant's product order page (via the datafeed).

This gives you a few benefits over direct linking:
1) You have everything on your own domain and don't have to compete with other advertisers for the same keyword. Because Google will only display one ad at a time going to the same domain, e.g. Buy.com

2) You can do your own presell with a custom tailored page suited to the visitor's buying mode or mindset.

3) You can set up pages dedicated to the product that was searched for, but also present "related items", thereby tempting them to get more stuff in their cart when they get to the merchant.

So let's say you're promoting camping gear. Someone searches for "Woodstock hippie camping tent". Your page presents the tent with a nice image from the datafeed (hosted by the merchant). Your page outlines the benefits of having this type of tent.

Add a few bulletpoints and some "quick tent tips" guide. And then in a sidebar or below suggest "Other people who bought this item also bought..." and show them images of camping stoves, campground lights, hiking boots, etc. Don't go overboard and confuse the user though.

Just make a nice and clean template that you can merge with the feed. Throw in some unique content for QS.

Oh and, get a domain with the product category or name in it. You could even create a mini-site around camping or whatever the hell you're promoting. :)

Bonus tip: To make it look more unbiased, you could sign up with a few competing merchants at CJ and also link to them from the same page. Something like "This product is also available at the following online stores. Click here to check availability"
