Hi,

A friend of mine has given a development job to improve a companys website. He is doing the design but said the client would like a list of suggestions on what else could be put on the website, I'll give them a list, they will choose what they want, and then I will price it for them and implement it.

I'm having a hard time thinking of things I could do for them. I want to suggest things which doesn't require updating from either party and ideas which those with little web knowledge will understand/see the benefit and be willing to pay for it.

So far I can only think of some cosmetic suggestions, such as using lightbox in the gallery and paying someone to do some nice flash header or something along those lines. The company specialise in manufacturing luxury interiors for cars and are seemingly doing very well.

Can anyone suggest some general 'features' I could propose to them?

Search for their competitor's websites and check what features they have... and of course all the necessary things like contact form etc.

I set up basic a basic CMS for all my clients, allowing them to edit thier own content.

I use this WYSIWYG editor:
The Man in Blue > Experiments > widgEditor
Throw it all into a DB and spit it back out on the appropriate pages.

It allows them to stop emailing me constantly to make retarded one line changes, and the perceived value is MUCH greater than the actual value (aka they think its a lot harder to set up then it actually is), so you can charge up the ass for it.

Thanks both, I did search competitors but none of them had anything more intricate than a nice design to be honest.

Bubbles, that looks pretty useful. Up till now I've been setting people up with a bulky as fuck CMS which does work OK but I would like to trim that down to basics. Did you create the code itself or do you use a public one?

Lightbox and flash header isn't going to help anybody find the site.

How about improving the rankings of the site? Have you considered keyword research and building content for longtail terms? Making the internal linking structure reinforce the terms you're targeting and ensuring the site is crawlable. Analytics services to help them better target their audience? Link building to push them above their competitors?

If you're looking for kitchy hooks how about a blog that features things like "Top Twenty Pimped Out Lambo Murcielagos" that you can promote virally? Luxury car dudes love linkbait.
