Closed online communities (invitation-only / application required)

it has been a while ...

I'm searching for closed communities on the web - social networks or forums that don't have a public "Register"-function available to everyone but are invite-only or need an application. Especially but not only such where members meet in reallife as well.

An example would be ASMALLWORLD or schwarzekarte.de (german).

Let me know when you know more. Just searching for it at google didn't bring quality results, which makes sense, when you think about it.
