Collecting Opt-ins w/o Hurting Aff Conversions?

I hear about some Affiliates talk about how I need to build a list, build a list, blah. Don't get me wrong, I know that these clicks will only get more expensive over time, but I'm having difficulty finding good ways to get opt-ins on my landing pages/ presells that don't distract the visitor from getting over to the merchant and converting.

Anyone care to share some ideas?

Check out ebook sales letters for great examples of collecting opt-ins.

My favorite is "Enter your name and email to view my super-secret sales letter".

It will hurt conversions, sure, but not so much to make it not worth it.

depends on the offer... but if the offer collects an e-mail address, have a form on your LP... "being by entering your e-mail address"... snag the e-mail, and when they click to continue, pass the e-mail to the form on the affiliate offer page.
