Anyone else have some insane hunger pangs post workout and the day after? It's tough staying the nutritional course when you're fucking starving.

What do you guys do or eat to control your hunger in situations like this?

Depending on whether or not I'm bulking or cutting, I respond differently.

Bulking - Hunger is a good thing, so it's cool. Go eatbeast mode and rape your cabinets.

Cutting - Pop some ephedra and caffeine to kill the appetite and cause nausea that makes me not want to eat until it's time to eat, or eat something bland and tasteless like an unseasoned can of tuna on top of spinach, then subtract the calories from something later in the day to stay within my daily level.

Either way, if you aren't eating Post-Workout you're doing it wrong... This is just for off-days.

What're you trying to do?

When I'm in cutting phase, I drink a whey protein shake with a banana blended in and a handful of mixed nuts. You get healthy fat, some fiber and a better feeling of satisfaction. That's day of workout and even day after.

Also you will be surprised how much less you eat when you drink about 24 oz or more of water 5 minutes before eating on hunger days.

I am always trying to put weight on. When I'm working out, I eat at least twice as much as when I'm not working out. The hunger pangs are from your body's request for more nutrients to replace the ones your burned off and repair the muscles.

Like habeeb said, if you aren't eating after the workout, you're hurting yourself - regardless of you trying to lose weight or gain mass.

My suggestion is to try and have 5 *meals* per day. Breakfast, late-morning protein shake, lunch, afternoon protein shake, dinner. The order will depend on when you workout. You'll want one of those shakes to be within an hour of your workout.

can of garbanzo beans with some lime juice, salt and pepper and hot sauce.

Low cal, mostly protein. Fills the void.

if cutting fat which you obviously are, plan your main meal of the day after workout. then i drink loads of water or coke zero for the rest of the night to kill hunger. man i fucking hate cutting

protein shake consisting of some form of milk + Rice Protein + Banana + Cocoa

These used to fill me up for ages. I believe the rice protein is the contributing factor as it is a lot more filling than you normal whey protein.

Eat protein, lots of little "meals" and drink tons of water. Lately, I've been drinking over a gallon of water a day and it makes you feel full.

Good replies, I'll second eating your biggest meal right after your workout and eating small meals throughout the day. If your body wants food, don't starve yourself, even if you're cutting. And +1 to drinking a gallon of water a day. Read something somewhere that said a majority of people report drinking a couple glasses of water when they're hungry at night eliminates the hunger enough to make it to the next morning.

Eat a shointload of high-fiber vegetables like broccoli. Fiber expands in your stomach, esp. with some water along with it. Steamed broccoli, garlic & ginger, little soy sauce, little olive oil, can't go wrong.

Don't control it. Just fucking eat man. Don't listen to anyone, but your body. If you are hungry - eat. But eat clean. Eat some veggies and some meat. Don't overeat. Just satisfy your hunger.

Truth... but as a fellow primal guy who believes in "eat when you're hungry, stop eating when you're no longer hungry", it only really works once you've gotten over the addiction to sugar and easy carb sources.

When hooked on sugar, your brain will constantly think it's hungry. It's a vicious cycle but one well worth breaking.

My post workout shake is whey, followed by a meal of healthy fats, veggies, and meat, poultry, eggs, or fish about an hour later. I'll add sweet potato if I'm bulking or "carb-loading" for a swim race

Fiber + water makes you feel full. Wheat bran, shredded wheat, celery, beans, etc. -> if you're not used to it, you'll fart like a motherfucker, but you won't feel hungry.
