I like 1.6.

CS is one fo those games were you play and you don't get bored. Been playing CS on and off for 8 years.

I haven't played CS properly in like 2 years, but yeah back then it felt more like a sport than a game, especially when you're playing competitively. I think that's why it's so addictive, you can really hone your skills and keep getting better, unlike most other games where you reach a limit in terms of how good you can get.

The CoD series, and games like Red Orchestra, are so much better than Counterstrike. It has definitely had its day.
Considering you can still find many professional teams playing CoD series (2 and 4) and Red Orchestra in multiple countries, and that there's so many versions of both released that each version will have a dedicated following that will be playing the games for years to come. I know exactly what you're saying.

But anyways, I suggest you buy source if you're looking for a good time and are in the United States. It's not as competitive (right now) as 1.6, but in terms of overall player numbers, it's the most played game on steam (1.6 is 3rd).

Oh god! So many nights wasted on vent playing cal matches (not vent as in steam, ventrillo or w/e the chat client)

Thanks for bringing those awesome memories back for the moment.

i played 1.6 for a solid 6 years, a lot of time in CALp. source is good, but competitively it stank (back when i played)
