Ok this has become a serious roadblock for me. How do you guys get ideas for making landing pages? I don't wanna outsource it cuz then I will never gain the experience to make one myself. So what factors do you guys take in consideration when creating your landing pages?

Keep It Simple Stupid. Don't make the visitor think. They'll hit the back button.

Have your content right there as the first thing the visitor sees. Also have your 'click here' button / text above the fold. After all, the main goal of the LP is to get them to click your affiliate link. Make sure they see that link.

Look at your competition's LPs. Don't steal from them, but look at them to see what you should be doing.

I think most importantly - always make sure you keep the 'actionables' above the fold.

I have the following above the fold:

- Headline
- A High Quality relevant picture. If it's auto insurance, then I'm going to have a picture of a car
- 3 key benefits of whatever you're selling
- a large call to action button
- Some extra stuff depending on the offer

As far as colors I try to match the offer's landing page exactly.

Thanks for your input guys. I'm gonna go into photoshop and whip something up keeping all those points in mind and just see how it converts.

I'm wasting more time than I should on this stupid task.

Testing is key. Make more than one LP, split and multivar test.

Might as well be throwing money out the window if you are not doing this.

This really depends on what type of offer(s) you are promoting as well. Not all LPs respond well with a simple page with some text and a call-to-action. Perhaps your niche is more suited for a review/compare style page, or even a simpler format with an opt-in field.

How do you split test a landing page?
Do you upload the index, check your stats when you get to a certain amount of clicks then replace it with a different one or is there a program/software that does it for you automatically?

No, normally, you would use the same campaign in google and randomly deliver 1-3 landing pages to the clickthru. After a lot of data, keep the highest converting LP (tracked with subids and other methods). Then you take that highest converting LP, and tweak that in 6 different ways, and again, split test that.

Just like your adwords campaign needs 6 different ads per group to test which one works best.

Most importantly, tracking. PPC without proper tracking or some kind, you wont succeed.

You could also consider checking out Google's Website Optimizer, which will do just that. I haven't tested it yet, but it seems like a good way for newbies to understand and try split-testing.

Ok so say you're split testing your landing page. Since there are variations to the type of landing page you can create, simple call to action, comparison, etc. Do you first test which type converts the best. Then take that winner and further split test it for minor changes like headlines, benefits, colors etc. Is that how it's done?

Also how many clicks do you guys let the campaign achieve until you decide a definite winner?

Then after I learn all this crap I need to learn keyword tracking.....AM is freaking tough.

If you want to be the best, and you think you've got what it takes, dedication is what you need to survive.

It can be tough, but it gets easier the longer you do it. The juice is worth the squeeze.

Let the LP run for at least a few days than tweak. We're never satisfied on what we develop but if it increases conversions, let it go.
