Creative Commons and commercial licenses

I'm interested in using an API on a site that will promote an affiliate program. The API I want to use is available under creative commons license but for commercial use, it says I need a commercial license. What exactly is commercial use? I'm not charging for access to the site at all, so am I free to use the API? What do you think about this?

Will you make money with the use of it in any way? I guess that counts as commercial.

Yes, through affiliate commissions. That's kind of disappointing, though I don't know what a commercial license entails.
