I am going to get a business amex card to do all my ppc... and would like to know if I HAD to have it on paper that I was actually a business or if I could just put a generic business name down for now, change it later going through the legal process... if and when things take off. sorry if this don't make sense?

You wouldn't have to say anything really. If you wanted to be a legitimate business in their eyes you could take 5 minutes and fill out an SS4 form online and get your tax ID, but the business name you put down will probably be put on the card, and even if it's not they will usually make you re-apply if you want to change the name on the account.

No worries though, you can still just sign up with your name and use your social security # in the tax ID spot. You can still use that for business expenses.

Hope that helps,

Josh

Josh that did help! I was wondering about the tax id too. I will just put a generic biz name and use my ss#... Thanks! :)

Yes, affiliateburn you can do just that Josh is correct!

I've started many businesses along my path and many of them started out just like that! On a whim I'll have an Idea for a new business and BAM it's time to get a new card or bank account.

But, if you really serious about starting a new business it only take about an hour of you time max.. I personally can do it in about 20 mins that is get everything filled, not the bank account or occupational licenses.

Depending what state you're in just visit the website of the state where you want your business to be registered. Look for something like "Electronic Filling" example: (www.sunbiz.org - Home) this is FL divisions of corporations. Rates range from about $70 - $130 depending how you file (Inc, LLC, C-Corp) etc...

After that visit https://sa1.www4.irs.gov/modiein/individual/index.jsp to apply for the required (EIN #) you need this as well as the "Articles of Incorporation" to set up a bank account.

You don't need this right away, but eventually you will....

Occupational Licenses -

When applying for the business O.L check the local county tax rates you might want to get your occupational licenses registered in a neighboring county if they are cheaper.

Affiliateburn...these guys are giving great advise.

When I started business, I started with an online store doing drop shipping. So I went through all the steps to get a state and Federal tax id. Had to. Most manufacturers require them before they'll drop ship for you.

I don't have the online store anymore. Dealing directly with customers, taking returns and entering orders can be a flat pain in the ass. But I maintain the company, file $0.00 taxes quarterly and pay my county $30/year. I'm planning on offering products in the future, so I keep the business status going.

It's also nice to be able to give tax ids instead of the social.

But, they are right, if you don't mind giving out your SSN, you can certainly start out without a tax id.
