~June 13th, 3 friends and I will be leaving from somewhere in West Virginia, for a trip across the country. We already have a general outline of what we would like to do, but I figure there's so much more we could see, and I couldn't think of a better place to ask for suggestions.

We're going to be heading South initially, hitting Nashville, then Austin/Dallas.

We'll then be making the long haul to the Southwest, hopefully stopping at the Grand Canyon.

Then up through California to Seattle.

We then have about a week to make it to Rothbury, MI, and are trying to stop in Chicago, as well as Glacier National Park. Then back to the DC area.

We don't have a whole hell of a lot planned honestly. Besides National Parks, staying in Long Beach for a bit, and a crucial lack of showering, we are open to suggestions.

I'm interested in about everything, but the cheaper and more active, the better.
Besides your suggestions, anyone willing to put up 4 smelly guys for night, would be greatly appreciated.

One the July 8th though the 12th in Roseburg OR we have something called Graffiti Graffiti Weekend 2008 Its pretty fucking cool lots of great cars, including mine. but there are tons of people come from all over the country for this.

btw the pics are only of the downtown cruise which in my opinion sucks balls, and its a small cruise, if you go 3 miles to the next town of Winston the cruise it about 20x bigger 1000+ cars easy, live music, and tons of booze. Its my favorite holiday ever.

That's actually just about perfect timing, but I doubt the people I'm going with will want to go. Although music and booze might be able to sway their decision.

I'm definitely trying to stop in Oregon though, hear it's beautiful.

Any other suggestions?

Since you guys are passing through Oregon if you need a place to stop I live right in the middle on the freeway's path (roseburg) let me know. I'd also be up for a trip to the Oregon coast which is only like an hour away. There's also Dune Fest there on July 29th-Aug 2nd which is basically tons of people partying and getting drunk n rowdy on the dunes.

Edit: just saw fattom's post. That'd be fun to (we're from the same town)

Unfortunately, I think we'll be making the last leg of our trip home right around this time.

It's almost a sure thing that we'll be heading through your guys' town, so if you're interested in a trip to the coast, we're all down for that.

And I have never seen so many trees so close to the beach!

grand canyon to vegas and southern utah - moab is cool as well. Maybe go up through new mexico to denver, then over to moab and then grand canyon . ..

you do have to stop at the meteor crater in northern az, painted desert is interesting, but mostlly for petrified wood and weird land formations. i think they are both just off i40?

A few updates....

I'm not going to be able to do the full trip unfortunately, due to some unforeseen car costs (we weren't taking my car, I just don't want to have a bucket when I get back.).

But I will be flying out to the west coast (Vegas most likely) and will drive the rest of the trip from there.

ck256- I'm gonna miss AZ, but I'll definitely tell my buddies about your suggestions, it's something we'd be into.

aekaplan- Bro, there's a big music festival there. Otherwise I'd avoid Michigan all together. ;) ROTHBURY FESTIVAL

PhilPaul - All of those are on the agenda, will most likely miss the Grand Canyon though. Definitely gonna see LA. I was in SD and SF last time I was in Cali, but have never been to LA. And the redwood forest, is gonna be awesome.

Anyone have suggestions places to hike? Maybe some mild rock climbing?

ALSO: If anyone knows of some sweet deals on flights to Vegas, I'd greatly appreciate the heads up.

That was a long time ago, no way that counts. I expect a reach around this time...

I'll AIM ya tomorrow.
