I am going to start a site that will be updated daily with current events. How would be the best way to manage that and display the articles? Am I looking for a BB or maybe a CSM? This is new to me but I have a topic that I have been following for years so I figured it would be good niche to do and give a try. But I also want it to rank well on google.

I would amost like a blogish look possibly just the main pain needs to show the most current articles.

Thanks for all the help

By the way... current events? Have fun competing with CNN.com, MSNBC.com and all the other largest companies in the world. If you're actually going to do this, you'll need to either:

1) Provide current events on a specific topic that interests you, or
2) Provide a very unique point of view and "voice" in your writing

trigatch4 I will be only covering the 2008 elections and news and events releated to that topic. I will be expanding the site to include other political areas.

One question I did have was I am using an RSS feed from digg.com for my news sub-page. Good? Bad? I used it so there would always be fresh headlines for the site. But is there a better RSS reader that I can customize for my site?

Any suggestions would be great. And what do you all think of it? Is this a good site/idea to stick with for this year and the elections? Now my next big thing is getting traffic there.

Thanks for all the help and great advice on the forums.

tri & scheme - cnn, etc were around when matt drudge launched his site and now they all go to him for news! you are right there are big players - but there's always room for more. go get 'em jp!

Unique

I agree with Trigatch4.

If you plan on just summarizing the news, you may have a difficult time getting anywhere both financially and with regards to your Google ranking, especially with a common subject like the Elections.

You need to have some element of uniqueness. In other words, you have to offer something additional that a reader won't get just by reading a major news website. Your key to success, especially for a blog set-up, is your loyal reader.

I run a blog for a particular industry in my country. I do summarize current news stories. But I also get inside scoops on stories by talking to people on the "inside". I also look at financial reports and pick apart numbers for a better discussion. I subscribe to press release feeds so I can jump on stories before the major news sites get a hold of them. Now my loyal readers feed me inside scoops.

If you are just going to republish rss feeds you aren't going to get too far.

Thanks Jened....

Elvie - I forgot to note that politics is something I have been involved with and have many contacts within. That is one of the reasons I choose the topic of Politics.

Now in regards to my site. I am trying to break it up into different phases or feature sets. I have the basic (very basic) site up now. That is right now why it only covers news and the people running. But I am planning on adding, and adding to the site each night. So it is an ongoing process. Plus we are still over a year away from the first primary. So I am hoping I am getting in soon enought for this.

The sky is the limit and I can't wait to see what this sites limit is.

Thanks all
