I know a lot of poker sites that win a bunch of money and i'm very much interested in making one for myself since i'm tired to be an affiliate for them. I want to have my own but am really curios how much work and $$$ would that involve?...Anyone has an answer for this? I just need an approximative figure.

I looked into licensing poker.com 's engine like 5 years ago. It's way expensive. You need to set up shop in Costa Rica or the like and the software itself was 10-20k 5 years ago for the smallest license. (1000 members or something)

However the return is probably phenomenal (outside the USA).

You're looking at a BIG project if you want to own your own poker site.

You might try looking for some white-label alternatives. These will make it look like its your site, but you're still being paid as an affiliate.

If you have the resources and the time and the help, start your own. But I think its more work than you might imagine.

I don't think it is worth the hassle of setting up a poker site when you can do revshare on other poker sites and make 30-40% on people you sent to the site. And you don't deal with support, payment processing (other than ensuring that you get paid) or security issues.

there are a lot of horror stories about people going down with their poker site. dutch boyd and pokerspot come to mind, google it.

not trying to discourage you, just make sure you are well aware of the monetary and legal implications of running your own poker site. depending upon your geographic location this could be a lot easier for you than someone located in the USA.

do a ton of research on the pitfalls that an aspiring online book / poker site would face (one quick one that comes to mind is getting fucked over by the company you have processing deposits and payouts - i believe this is something that boyd alleges took him down).

if you still think you can hang, fucking go for it. when the asian market gets tapped into and catches the NL hold'em bug, shit is going to blow up HUGE.

best of luck
