Denied health insurance

When Obamacare was rolled out, my health insurance was cancelled and I had to sign up for a new plan. Applied for a couple (not Obamacare, just regular plans). Even though the exact same coverage I already had was now 3x more expensive I just said fuck it and signed up anyway.

Tonight I get a letter saying I'm not eligible for health insurance, because I'm currently taking medication for a pre-existing condition (to be exact, it's basically allergy medication that costs like $200 a year, not some outrageous cancer treatment etc). The letter even stated that I was perfectly healthy, in fact healthier than average, and would have been eligible had I not been taking this medication. I was under the impression that you couldn't be denied coverage for pre-existing conditions, but evidently that was a lie.

So now I have no health insurance and it doesn't look like I'm gonna be getting approved for any useful plan anytime soon. Has this happened to any of you?

Sorry to hear that bro.

Do people have any idea what healthcare is like in other countries? It's like getting a haircut. He cuts your hair, you pay him. Done.

Mandatory health insurance is like the government forcing me to wear a helmet all day. Just in case.

In what country does it work this way?

If you are signing up for private insurance's, they will say Fuck you and your pre existing condition, you are going to waste your time with that, any private insurance will tell you the exact same thing, wait til Obama care rolls out, and do it that way.

When you apply, there is a check mark for pre existing condition in that application, once that is flagged, they laugh and shred that shit or delete it from their server and keep hustling members.

I call bullshit OP. The state told you that you would be covered regardless of preexisting conditions. The state made you a promise and we all know the state never does anything wrong. So you must have fucked up OP, because the government never does.

Government fixing health care. Lol.

Well the government is trying to pass bills now so you can continue paying for your cancelled insurance.

YaY Government.

Yeah I assumed that was the case. My marketer's instinct told me to lie, but I assume if you ever actually need the insurance for something major they'll do an all-out background check and deny your claim if you lied about anything on the application including some 10 cent allergy pills.

I guess I'll just go without insurance for now and then see if I can sign up for the actual Obamacare plans, although I kept hearing they had an income cap so if that's true then I probably won't qualify for those anyway.

So if you don't have health insurance you get fined, yet it's also impossible to get approved for health insurance in the first place. How fucking high was Congress when they thought this would be a good idea?

Its all good man, but remember, even if they would have approved you and you would have gone to get your allergic medication, that would automatically flag them and send you a pre existing letter and deny your claim and your medication and would have to pay out of pocket, I used to work for one of the biggest insurance companies, I used do the whole 9 yards, its fucking depressing the shit they pull on members.

But he'd still have insurance though, right? Better to have to pay for the allergy stuff out of pocket and at least have insurance that will pay for emergencies.

^ Yeah, I don't care about paying a couple hundred dollars a year for the medication. It isn't even necessary, I just take it so I'm not sneezing and shit all the time. I would like to have health insurance for accidents/emergencies.

@charles my coverage is already cancelled, so I have no insurance at the moment.

Look into accident insurance. AFLAC and Assurant (I think) offer it. It's not as good as catastrophic insurance but it's better than nothing.

Also, try signing up for a regular health insurance policy that starts Jan 1.

Send the ins. company a horse head in a box and then call them the next day and see if they had a change of heart.
