I just set up a site aimed towards college students. first day of promotion and I have 50 subscribers big woop.

any suggestions for link building/traffic?

Is facebook.com taken? That sounds like it would be a good place for college kids to meet up?

DuelElite: You going for the generic any college student? Or are there specific colleges, or even campuses, you're after?
What sort of site is it? A forum? A social site? Info? Study Aids? It's hard to give specific answers without specific info.

Alex is on the money about free stuff, though... I remember people (myself included) mindlessly queuing for anything that was remotely free.

Me being a college student loves shiny things and anything free (lol).

Seriously though, it might be kinda tough to break into the college world since Facebook is obviously dominating. As with anything else, you need to one-up the competition, so bring on a new take or perspective that will attract people already using Facebook. *cough*freestuff*cough*.

Just because his main audience is college students does not mean he is making some sort of facebook clone.

Since you site targets college students why not use facebook to market? I'm not talking about social ads, I'm talking about groups and networking,,, Lot's of free traffic there.

I have thought of using facebook to market but most of the social ads I see are pretty girls for that whoome site or something similar and I dont feel that my site would really fit well.

Im going for any sort of college student. Its a newsletter dedicated to helping people become more social in college (building confidence , creating attraction , beating approach annexity ect) So really geared towards freshmen (mainly)

I have thought of using facebook and one of those facebook adders such as facebook bombers to build a big facebook network. I have already created a facebook group but need a way to get my group out there

At the moment I am focusing on free ways just to test the waters before I smash out the adwords campaigns and buying adspace on college related sites (college slackers , college confidential ect ect).

I have already had people asking me for link exchanges from websites related to term papers.

I have thought of buying a few of those lists off DP for like $5. for like 500 emails. But I dont know if there active college students or that have left 20 years ago.

My best bet would probably be to throw $400-500 advertising on websites and $200-$300 on adwords.

I have just noticed my mailing for "scholarship" has gone out and I have made $70ish on a $4something offer. So I belive this list should be very responsive.
