Did Mike Vick deserve 23 months in jail?

Do you guys think Mike Vick deserved the 23 month sentence he got today?

I'm a big football fan and loved Mike Vick as a player. He was one of the more exciting players in the league, but I do think he deserves the 23 months. Killing dogs is obviously a horrible thing to do and there really is no good reason for it. The judge was firm but fair. Basically said Vick didn't come fully clean about his involvement so he nailed him. Even though I like Vick, he deserves it.

They say it's gonna cost him $147MM in contract + endorsement deals by missing these next 2 years. What an idiot.

What do you guys think?
 


If he wasn't a celebrity then i'll bet the sentencing would have been half of that.. Just think he'll be able to star in his own movie remake "The Longest Yard" for the feds..
 
They should have made him fight pitbulls so he could get a little taste of what it's like.

Pig are more intelligent then dogs, and you never hear anyone cry about slaughter houses, boar hunting etc.

Nop that's my exact sentiment. You guys shoot ducks, fish, and eat undeveloped chicken fetus, and cries foul when some schmuck pulled a feather out of a peacock and shit.

Some dipshit on another forum made a good point, even though he got flamed to hell. They were arguing about duck hunting seasons. He said playing DuckHunt on your old-school Nintendo is perfectly okay, but grabbing a shotgun to the lake and pop a few rounds at ducks and everybody screamed murder. They both are considered entertainment, to 2 different mindsets.

Like Nop said, you guys are too comfortable sitting in front of your computer, go to school, or hang out at the mall to see the reality of slaghterhouses. They gut your fish while it's alive, and the chickens you eat died by boiling water.

Yeah, he definitely deserves it. Throws away all that fortune and fame cause he wants to watch dogs kill each other. People who piss away opportunity are the worst kind. Since his sentence was longer than 12 months, chances are he'll be finishing it out in prison as most county jails (at least around here) only allow convicts to stay 12 months, and anything longer than a 12 month sentence results in prison time. Maybe in prison the roles will be reversed for him, he'll become the one who is owned, and he'll gain a new perspective. But most likely, it'll be another paris hilton case - a big joke.

killing animals for consumption cannot be compared to dog fighting which is done solely for entertainment.

about vick: he got off lightly i think. financially backing a criminal enterprise is no petty offense. i disagree with him getting a "tough" sentence because he is a celeb, infact i think it's quite the opposite. if regular joe schmoe put money into a dog fighting enterprise, you can be sure he would get more than what vick got.
 
I think 10 years of extensive supervised community service at an animal shelter would have been better justice. He should be made to help the things he tried to destroy.

Rich rednecks in the NFL go deer hunting all the time. Do you think they need meat from the animals they are killing? Putting the heads on a wall? At least Vick didn't put the fucking heads of his dogs on the wall.

I'm sure he wasn't excited when he had to kill his dogs. They were part of his team regardless of how you look at it.
 
By the way, I'm not saying what he did wasn't wrong, I'm just saying shit gets blown way out of proportion. PETA jumps on the scene and everything goes to shit with the harassing and everything. This guy's going to prison AND losing 150mil over this crap and you can bet when he gets out of prison, PETA will be right there waiting on him to try and dissuade NFL teams from signing him.

How would someone like it if they got a DUI or something like that, and had MADD coming to your job, every job you try to get and every source of income you own, and having them protest you until the organizations cut you off. That shit sounds like a criminal case to me, Vick vs PETA. Get off his nuts.

Alright fine, ya'll roped me in.

We had this similar discussion about the killing of the dolphins in another thread. Why is it ok to kill some animals and not others? And if you want to say because we eat those animals, Ok then let me ask why is it ok for certain people to decide to "put down" animals for whatever reasons, population control, no where to keep the animal, unwanted...etc but not ok for Vick to shoot it when he decided it was no longer useful?

Not saying I like it. Or agreee with it. Or even that I have a problem with him going to jail over it. Only that we should constantly question the possible hypocrisies surrounding it.

The dogs used were bred to fight and entertain, the dogs had no choice but to do what they were "told" to do - kill or be killed

who ever gets their dick hard from watching 2 dogs mutilate each other is fucked in the head and should be locked up - who wants people like that around?
