Anyone else notice the Wynn ads on Digg today with the dates in December that have all passed already? It's funny that whoever is spending the big money to have those on there is using creatives with old dates.

And people wonder why Digg can't make money off their ads.....

sorry but what the fuck does advertiser incompetence have to do with digg not being able to make money?

If they used a cpc model instead of a cpm i would think that horrible ads would get less clicks and generate less revenue. I doubt people are wiling to click on a special that ended weeks ago.

They are probably cpm though so I have no idea.

Even if people are paying based on CPM they're going to be expecting some sort of return on their investment from the traffic source. So if they're running ads that have dates, that are now basically worthless, they're PROBABLY going to get a lower CTR, resulting in a lower conversion rate, and are probably going to look like idiots in the process, or their brand will anyways.

If they get a shitty ROI from their investment on ads on Digg this time why would they be inclined to use Digg in the future? You probably wouldn't keep running your ads thru Miva or on Yahoo's content network if you got a shitty return, would you? Your probably going to want to utilize the traffic sources that are constantly giving you a good return.

It just makes Digg look bad in my opinion. (When it's probably FM or DoubleClicks screw up for running the wrong creatives)

Hope that explains my logic and redeems myself NickyCakes

No. This explains nothing. They got a shitty return because they mismanaged their own ad creative. How does this reflect badly on digg?

If you do a little research, you'll find that digg cpm buys are terribly overpriced, and people are still buying, especially big brands, and have been for years. Introducing a self-serve ad platform will absolutely neuter their income by revealing exactly worthless their traffic really is.

So, in reality, you're completely wrong. Digg are currently making out like bandits due to the inability of large brands to judge effectiveness of internet cpm ad buys, since part of the value is brand recognition, and not just direct clicks/sales. They're the smart ones, the advertisers are retarded.

Yeah I know that they're CPM rates are nuts, I've looked into doing some media buys with them before through FM, I believe. I just think shit like this could hurt their rep. But its probably an isolated incident. However, Digg's far from making out like bandits, even if their ad rates are over priced, when they can't make their shit profitable year after year.

Digg’s Sorry Revenue Stream, And Rumors Of An Experimental Ad Product

It's Sunday the 28th now and the ad's still running. Some overworked persons holiday fuck up probably. So if you wanted to experience luxury, you missed the boat, and are shit outta luck now.
