Direct buys on a site - what's to stop site owner from just running the offer himself

So, when it comes to buying adspace on marginal sites with buy prices of about 500-2.5k, sites that aren't major media, and aren't done through ad brokers, what's to stop the site owner from seeing your CPA ads, assuming they're converting well (or else you wouldn't keep sending him money), saying you can't advertise on the site anymore, then running the own offer in the same adspaces you were? Seems like this could be a real possibility in this type of thing. I'm talking the gaming niche particularly. What do you media buyers do to deal with this possibility? Sure, the owner of the site won't know your ROI, but if he clones you offer, makes ads really similar to yours, he'll soon find out.

I would do it anyway till he find out (if it will be the case). At least on time of your contract (IO) you can make this profit:)

As for gaming webmasters... look like these people don't know / don't like CPA model, I have read some their discussions on forums on interwebz

can't let fear drive you. If you're always afraid of who's going to take your stuff you'll never get anywhere. If they take it they take it have plenty of sites most of them have no idea what cpa affiliate marketing is.

most of them dont have the power nor the work etichs to update the Offers on their site , so they prefer making a steady income with Adnetworks(Adsense) than taking care of things theirselves

It happens a lot actually. More and more webmasters are learning about CPA etc.

From my experience, a lot of website owners don't want to spend the time to test, optimize, etc. They would rather just have the steady guaranteed money.

I'd say it's more stupidity. If somebody is willing to sell banner space on their site, they obviously haven't done enough research of their niche to implement their own banners.

So when doing direct media buys, I'd say it's safe to assume that they're not 'bright' enough to sign up for a cpa network and make real money with their site.

So Jon is stupid for selling banner space on WF and not signing up for a CPA network to make real money? I guess he's just not bright enough..

Most of these guys don't have the time required to test and optimize campaigns on their sites.

In a sense, that's why they are basically sharing the revenue from CPA offers on THEIR sites with us in exchange for us doing all the work. They still get paid. We act as sort of a sales staff.

Sure, we keep a lot of the money but they are also saving time which they put into creating a great site that can sell more ads with very little work on their part. We all know how much time goes into creating great & profitable campaigns. That time saved could mean the difference between a great site and a shit one.

So it's not that they are all stupid, most of the time it's just a difference of priorities.

This is exactly what 4chan does. Dude makes 5 figures from banner spots and half the shit probably doesn't even convert.

CPA campaigns have a short life. By the time someone wants to steal your business the campaign is negative ROI already. Then they have the expense of testing for a new campaign, steep learning curve, investment in data..

Don't worry about it, do it.

Also...if they all ask what do you plan to avertise and your gut feeling tells you it's their main and probably single question - run. I saved myself from some chinese scammer that way (whoised his domain later)
