Direct Linking A Must?

For you to join a merchants affiliate program, is direct linking a must?

What about trademark bidding?

Depends who you are with - I have a few products with CB - and most CB merchants discourage straight links. In fact we go to a lot of trouble building tons of landing pages, pop unders, relative banners to point to either squeeze pages or landers first. Trademark bidding is usually quite discouraged however again, it ranges from merch to merch - I could care less for my products, more sales is more sales...

Most big guys don't allow direct linking anymore, so I don't care - I've got my tricks to make things work. I like TM bidding, but I've also been successful on fringe for certain merchants.
