Do you recommend a Kindle or other e-book reader?

no real recommendation but don't forget to look into the nook . It ships Feb 1st and is way cheaper than a Kindle. Plus it has better specs, native support for PDF's, etc.

doesn't the kindle have a built in web browser? not that in black & white it'd be phenomenal, but still

I was just shopping for an e-reader the other day too. From what I've read so far, I will not be buying a Kindle. You gotta convert PDF files to read them. Looks like I might be getting the Sony Reader 700 instead.

The Sony one looks pretty decent. I won't be buying a Kindle either, and the Nook review looks kinda shitty.

I'm kind of torn, I don't know whether I should wait for Apple to come out with their reader.

I'm getting a nook in Feb (it was a Christmas present), I wanted the nook because I wanted color and better PDF support, the hackable android OS is also attractive to me. Hopefully I wont regret it given the Engadget review.

Why get the Kindle Reader, or any eBook-Specific device, when you can do a crapload more on an iPhone/iPod, or Android based device, and still read kindle based books on it?

The nook isn't huge by any means but I don't want to read an entire book on my G1 phone, blog posts and twitter are about my limit.

I love my kindle, but both Microsoft and Apple will have something to say about the ereader market in the next 30 days...if I didn't already have the kindle I'd be waiting to see what those devices look like.

i have a sony reader and i love it. kindle sucks because you have to buy from amazon. i just torrent books by the authors i like and load 'em up. the reader reads most formats, too.

you CANNOT compare an iphone to a proper ebook reader. the ebook readers use "e-ink" displays that mimic the look and feel of ink on paper, for easier reading. if you are a serious reader, it's a fantastic investment. i got mine for christmas and have already read 3 novels.

Is there a reader that can open .cbr files? (cause i have thousands of comics in that format)

Wagenheim thanks you for the purchase of his ebooks and recommends the reader that allows the largest font because all of his are written in 72pt Helvic boldface
