NOVA did a great show on Dogs this past week. Doesn't matter if you're a dog lover or not, it was fascinating. I loved what they did with the foxes.

NOVA | Dogs Decoded

Program Description

(This program will stream for one week after broadcast.) "Dogs Decoded" reveals the science behind the remarkable bond between humans and their dogs and investigates new discoveries in genetics that are illuminating the origin of dogs—with surprising implications for the evolution of human culture. Other research is proving what dog lovers have suspected all along: Dogs have an uncanny ability to read and respond to human emotions. Humans, in turn, respond to dogs with the same hormone responsible for bonding mothers to their babies. How did this incredible relationship between humans and dogs come to be? And how can dogs, so closely related to fearsome wild wolves, behave so differently?

I watched a program on the BBC about a year ago, I think, and on that they had the siberian foxes program (if that's what you mean) and showed how dogs look at humans the same as humans look at humans (the right side of the face first).

It also showed how dogs respond to pointing, unlike chimps for instance, and how we know the emotion of the dog from just the sound of it's bark. They had a woman who had a semi-trained wolf in her home, but it was completely out of control and also had a dog that recognised objects from pictures. It was incredible and by the sounds of it very similar.

That's it exactly. Which doesn't surprise me. PBS often repackages BBC programs. And now that I think about it, all of the participants were European.

Yeah I loved the thing about the symmetry and the fact that your most authentic side of your face is the right side (I never knew that) and now everytime I'm talking to my dog it's so obvious that she concentrates on my right side.

Dogs are cool.

My current one is a fucktard... but I still like him. This dog doesn't listen and he don't give a fuck. He's a 7 lb Yorkie that has a short man's complex and abandonment issues.

He's a piece of work -- any command you give him get's two responses as he decides what level of obedience he's about to bestow upon you:

1) He yawns

2) he sniffs his ass

lol.
