Donald Trump is offering to buy out one of the major investors in the real estate partnership that controls the site near ground zero where a Muslim group wants to build a 13-storey Islamic centre.
In a letter released Thursday by Mr. Trump's publicist, the real estate investor told Hisham Elzanaty that he would buy his stake in the building for 25 per cent more than whatever he paid.
Mr. Trump said he was making the offer not because he thought the location was spectacular, but because it would end “a very serious, inflammatory, and highly divisive situation.”
It is not clear whether Mr. Elzanaty has total control over the property, which is owned by an eight-member investment group managed by Soho Properties.

I call bullshit on this. Trump has an ace up his sleeve. This is about making money in one way or another (nothing wrong with that, of course; it's just stupid how he's trying to portray himself merely as a peacekeeper... LOL).
 
Well it is pretty obvious as to what the ace up his sleeve is....but its still brilliant of him to play it off as a peacekeeper.

He becomes an absolute hero if he pulls this off, for anyone and everyone that is up in arms over the whole situation. Thus, drastically emphasizing his entire brand......

step 1: watch dispute and division occur
step2: step in and take control
step 3: become an "american hero"
step 4: profit.

The IMAM will say that the radicals in the muslim world will interpret it as selling their souls to the devil or some shit like that as the reason when they decline.
 
Yeah, it's a pretty brilliant strategic move for the purpose of exploiting the American people once they fall in his favor.:bowdown:
 
Nice play. He was on Letterman a week ago or so and seemed pretty pissed off about the situation with the mosque. I was disappointed that Letterman seemed to side with those Muslims.

I hope he buys the lot and makes it into the Trump Mosque Tower just to piss people off.

I'm ignorant on the subject, but what is the exact reason for them wanting to put a Mosque right there? To me, it looks like a slap in the face to everyone who died on 9/11 at the hands of some Islamic radicalist fuckheads. So basically you have a shrine to islam on the exact soil where 3000+ people were killed. And the reason the city of New York is letting this happen is because.....??/????

Seems like it's asking for trouble on both sides. If it manages to come to fruition, that mosque will have a huge target on it's back, and at the same time, you'll have a nice little terrorist training camp at the base of the new freedom tower. How convenient.
 
Let's not knock Trump, some of us grew up reading Art of the Deal in the bathroom daily for years straight.

Not ME of course, but I'm sure some did.

nice try but I guess you all forgot president of US has a certain policy of appeasing muslims. don't think buying out is going to work.

There have been photos of the area in the other big "ohno, it's a mosque" thread.
The area is littered with seedy sports betting places, coffeeshos and payday loan outlets.

Nothing "sacred" to see there, please move on.

What's wrong with loan shops, tittie bars, and betting places? I find a mosque 10x more insulting than all three of those things combined.

Pretty sure his father didnt help him with any of his business. He worked for him starting out but got loans from banks and investors for all his projects. Even came close to personal bankruptcy and was in debt close to $1b. Dont think daddy could have saved him from that.

Anyone not anchored by inhibition could have done the same thing during the housing bubble and reached similar success, starting with flipping houses with no money down and scaling up to commercial real estate. (But I guess that could go for any business)

Wrong. His father partnered with him in his first deal which was a little talked about slumlord apartment complex he bought while in college. He made 6mil on that deal... If that isn't help I don't know what is. All my dad gave me was a pat on the back - so I'd say 6mil counts for something.

He also used all of his father's contacts to get himself through the door when it came to school (Wharton's) then parlayed his namesake into the Manhattan entrepreneur/bourgeois scene.

His father is a huge reason he's where he is today.
