Twitter got hacked today

-Everybody pretty much knows this has happened, but in my opinion the Iranian gov't could be behind it.

They're the only ones that I think have a motive.

They tried their best to shut down the internet and hackers were able to get in there and get them access to Twitter.

And then this morning, down goes Twitter around the same time that Ahmadinejad is to be sworn in.

Many of the citizens are already pissed off about the election results and now they have to watch him be sworn in.

I'm not saying it's the Iranian Gov't for sure, but if I had to put money on it, that'd be my best bet.

I've always been intrigued with hacker news.:yin-yang:

They didn't get "hacked". It was a DOS attack. Facebook too.

I agree with you. It's all part of Iran's evil plan to stop American's from chatting with people on Facebook they went to high school with and haven't seen for 10 years, when they are supposed to be working. Or talking about where they are going to go to get drinks after work on Twitter. Soon, the entire system will come crashing down!! Muwhahahahaha.

Pure Evil Genius.

Except, you know, ahibinabad was sworn in yesterday? Interesting theory but totally pointless and as was mentioned, it hasn't been hacked.

Yes definitely Iran. Weeks after the election controversy and protests of mostly ended and the president as been cemented in power. Yup, totally Iran.

Why did half of Iranian parliment not show up yesterday?

Why was the besiege out cleaning the streets?

Read and be enlightned:

"
The expert warned that with the ongoing trials in the country, chances are high that some leading opposition figures might be blamed for the unrest that followed the election and might be arrested as a result.
Al Jazeera's own Iran analyst concluded that the upcoming period will serve as a tough test for both Ahmadinejad and the reformists.
Hussein Rawi-Warran said Ahmadinejad has to navigate "severe divisions within his own hard-line ruling party as well as the danger of reformists that were empowered by eight weeks of disobedience."
Now his challenge is to form a government that parliament can approve and "that's no easy task -- the reformists and those within his party who oppose him -- make up a majority in parliament that's against him."
Reformist supporters were busy on social networking sites today just as they were throughout the election crisis. They posted messages ranging from defiance to offering an action plan.
One message on Twitter reads, "Lots of empty seats in the Majlis (parliament) today. Well done to those who kept away. Now we need leadership committed to regime change."

Analysis: Empty seats, silence speaks for protesters - CNN.com

again this was YESTERDAY, and how is the Iranian public communicating with the rest of the world? TWITTER.....

Hmm

Give me one other "valid suspect", I will accept links from non biased sources. kthx

Yesterday one message said something so the Iranian government decided to virtually attack an internet business. How does this make sense to you?

Iran's ISP are all government approved or run. They can block twitter pretty easily for the majority of the population. Your ability to extrapolate and ignore logic is impressive.

Please see your way to the nearest exit.

Also on a scale of 1 to 10 how worried are you about the following issues:
Iranians are going to BLOW US OFF THE MAPZAAFDS
OMG THEY GONNA INVADE US
I think my neighbor is a terrorist
Where are my pants?

lol droplister, I like your style.

And for your scale:

Iranians are going to blow us off the map- 0
They're gonna invade us- 0
lol @ the last one, but still- 0

The entire point of my thread was more or less to gather more theories about where this attack came from.

I appreciate your counter offer that Iran's ISP are all government approved or run and that they can block twitter pretty easily to the majority of the population. I'll look into that. Do you any links I can look at regarding that knowledge?

One thing to look at. Occam's razor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Could Iran Shut Down Twitter? :: The Future of the Internet — And How to Stop It
So it’d be trivial for the Iranian government to block access to Twitter as it could to any particular Web site, and it could even block access to some Twitter users’ feeds there while leaving others open, by simply configuring its filters to allow some Twitter urls through while filtering others. But Twitter isn’t just any particular Web site. It’s an atom designed to be built into other molecules. More than most, Twitter allows multiple paths in and out for data. Its open APIs make it trivially easy for any other Web service provider to insert a stream of tweets in or to capture what comes out. Thus Twitterfall can provide a waterfall of tweets — all viewable by going there instead of to Twitter. Anyone using at Twitterfall can tweet from there as well. You can hook up your Facebook status in either direction, so that when you tweet it automatically updates your Facebook status — or the other way around.

You're fuckin retarted for your stupid ass theory. But seriously, WTF!!!!! I still can't post on twitter. I'm seeing others post and the trending topics are changing, so why the fuck can't I tweet about how I lost 100 pounds today? Is anyone else experiencing this? Was it just some of their servers and thus, only some accounts that were affected?

I fucking hate when the press report on technical stories and get it completely wrong. I heard on the BBC this morning that 'TWITTER GOT HACKED' /facepalm

It didn't get hacked you morons.

the press know what happened, but you have to look at it from their perspective. They're not going to waste their time explaining what a DoS attack means. For most people the word hacking just means doing something malicious.

True, but it implies failure on Twitter's behalf :) But I guess the press want to make it sound as interesting as possible.
